The Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC) focuses all of its time and energy on one very particular goal: ensuring the recovery of viable grizzly bear populations and their habitat in North America. Of course, helping grizzlies thrive doesn’t just involve policy, planning, and research (though those things are a big help) – they also needed a website so that the public could read about their progress and educate themselves about bear products and bear safety.

A Committee Committed To Helping The Grizzly Bear Thrive

Established in 1983, the IGBC is a conglomeration of representatives from other government agencies, including he U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Geological Survey and representatives of the state wildlife agencies of Idaho, Montana, Washington and Wyoming. Since the committee formed over three decades ago, scientists and researchers believe that the grizzly population has more than doubled in the continental United States, but there is still much more work to be done when it comes to protecting bears, preserving their habitats, and finding a safe and healthy way for bears and humans to share the land.

The IGBC Website, Old And New

The old IGBC website was out of date in many ways. Visually, it lacked a modern look and a mobile-friendly responsive design. Behind the scenes, the website used the Content Management System (CMS) Joomla, which didn’t fit the group’s need of being able to upload images and content easily on a regular basis. What they needed was simple: a modern makeover for their site that made it simple to add new information for the public.

After learning about their needs, Design Missoula got to work. First, we switched them over to WordPress so that they would have a great new content management system that was easy to use for all of their staff members. Next, we created a clean, simple black and white design with green highlights, giving the site a modern and easy-to-navigate look that centered on colors found in nature. As it should be, striking pictures of grizzly bears in the wild are front and center on each page, capturing the beauty and importance of the animals the committee is passionate about saving.

Finally, we created a responsive website for the committee, making certain that people surfing the web on smart phones or tablets would be able to navigate the site without trouble.
